【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=송인헌 괴산군수가 대학찰옥수수 종자를 개발한 최봉호 박사(전 충남대 교수)에게 대학찰옥수수를 괴산의 대표 농산물로 육성한 데 기여한 공로로 16일 감사패를 받았다.

괴산대학찰옥수수는 괴산군 장연면이 고향인 최봉호 박사가 충남대 교수로 재직 당시 12년간 연구 끝에 시험 재배를 거쳐 장연면 농민들에게 대학찰옥수수(연농 1호) 씨앗을 전달한 것을 계기로 시작됐다.

대학찰옥수수는 괴산군이 주력 소득작목으로 정해 정책적으로 육성한 끝에 괴산군의 대표 농산물로 자리매김하고 있으며, 품종 특성상 껍질이 얇고, 높은 당도와 쫀득한 식감으로 전국적으로 사랑을 받고 있다.

괴산 대학찰옥수수 생산자단체의 30여 년간 쌓아온 재배 기술을 활용해 고품질의 대학찰옥수수를 생산하고 있으며, 냉동옥수수 생산 시설을 이용해 연중 판매 유통시스템을 구축하는 등 원조 대학찰옥수수의 명성을 이어가고 있다.

감사패를 전달한 최봉호 박사는 “괴산군의 지속적인 애정과 관심이 없었다면 이렇게 명품 농산물로 자리 잡지 못했을 것”이라며 “자식과도 같은 대학찰옥수수를 명품 농산물로 육성해 준 것에 감사하다”고 전했다.

송인헌 군수는 “좋은 종자를 개발해주셔서 감사하다”라며 “앞으로도 대학찰옥수수의 안정적인 생산과 유통을 위해 힘쓰겠다”고 전했다.

Daehakchal corn has established itself as a representative agricultural product of Goesan-gun after being designated as a main income crop by Goesan-gun and fostered through policy.
