그는 “의료비후불제 사업은 첫 시행 이후 대상자격 확대, 신청절차 개선 등 도내 의료취약계층의 의료부담 완화를 위해 지속적으로 사업을 보완했다.”며, “이번 대상질환 확대 또한 수차례 전문가 간담회 및 민원상담시 도민의 요구 등을 적극 반영하여 확대 추진된 것”이라고 밝혔다.

이번 충북도의 확대질환 중 치아교정은 의료취약계층 본인과 자녀를 대상으로 지원된다. 의료비후불제 융자(최대 300만원) 초과 분에 대한 교정비(200만원 한도)도 적십자사와 치과병원 등에서 지원할 예정이다. 이를 통해서 취약계층의 치주질환 등 2차질환으로 질병 악화를 막고 성장기 아동의 자존감 향상에 도움을 줄 것으로 기대하고 있다.
